What is a Hybrid Waist?   What is the difference with a Hybrid?  Why Should I get a Hybrid?

These are questions I get asked a lot. The Hybrid waist was Thought up at about 2 am while I was laying in bed trying Desperately to figure out How I could “Alter” the design of a Standard Wrap Conversion to make it my ULTIMATE 2 Shouldered Carrier. I found I don’t like the narrow webbing on Soft Structured Carriers, but I liked the quickness of them. I Loved the Ease of a Mei Tai, But found myself constantly pulling the straps so that they balanced on the ball of my shoulder but it wouldn’t stay put and looked ridiculous!   I love the way wrapping feels but it’s hard and I didn’t have the dedication to master more than 1 back Carry. Plus I just don’t like having things tight around my waist. So that left me with a Wrap Conversion Which I LOVED! It was the Best of Both Worlds! I call it a “Cheater Wrap” But the waist drove me crazy! It felt Tight, and confining. Not to mention the fact that it accentuated my Fluff, and made me self conscious to wear it in public. Also Every time I sat down with it on, I could never lean back without a knot in my back. So…. I started was Brainstorming….Trying to figure out what I could do to Solve this Waist issue I had.  Being a Ring Sling Girl at heart, I came up with the Perfect solution for me! To My Pleasant Surprise, 1 wide Strap Spread across my back threaded through rings solved EVERYTHING! The claustrophobic feeling of having straps or buckles tight around me, no straps across the top of my shoulders to dig in, no waist digging and no uncomfortable knot! I could not wait to Try out my design!!!  BUT Would it work? And I think we all know the answer to that question! It worked better than I could have ever imagined! And mama’s across the world are starting to agree with me! I ave even started Converting Waists of my Wrap Conversions to a Hybrid by request! 1 Customer has 2 of my WC’s…1 of each waist style…and she wants me to convert hers 2 Strap waist to a Hybrid Now as well!  When I told her I would gladly Convert the waist for her this was her reply. “Yay, Thank you! I find myself not even using it because it doesn’t have the Hybrid Waist. There’s no going back once you’ve tried it, lol”

DISCLAIMER: here is a List of Pro’s and Con’s of Both Styles Based from my  Personal opinion and experience and the input of  Many mama’s that Have tried the Hybrid waist as well. You may not agree with ALL of my Pro’s and Con’s, So please remember they are based on my personal opinion, and that of mama’s who have given me lot’s of feedback.

HYBRID: What is it? It is 1 Wide Long Waist Strap that wraps around you and is secured into 2 small aluminum sling rings is threaded the same way you thread a Ring Sling.

2 STRAP: What is it? I think we all pretty much know…But it is 2 waist straps that wrap around and tie together into a Big knot.

HYBRID PRO’S:

• No uncomfortable Straps Digging since it is wide and remains spread out
• No large knot in the middle of your back to lean against if you sit
• Provides more support because it is spread wide, like a wrap
• Zero slippage, Babies weight locks them in place! Just like a Ring Sling
• You Can’t feel the rings when you are wearing it
• Can be worn exactly like every other Mei Tai, even in high back carries
• It takes less wrap to make a WC if you get a Hybrid waist style a 4.2 as opposed to a 4.6
• MOST IMPORTANTLY (for women with curves) it Totally MINIMIZES your muffin top
• And it adds a fashionable appeal to your carrier

HYBRID CON’S:

• It takes a little getting used to threading and spreading ie: there is a little Learning curve

2 STRAP PRO’S:

• Quickly Tie a knot and your done
• Very Supportive waist
• Zero slippage and holds secure
• It has a Familiarity
• It’s what we see on all Tying Mei Tai’s and we know it works

2 STRAP CON’S:

• 2 straps will Dig more no matter how much you spread them, they can not  stay spread  when tied
• Digging in at the waist can get uncomfortable with a heavier baby or toddler
• Not very flattering when digging into your waist (unless you’re a size ZERO)
• Large knot in the middle of your back makes it uncomfortable to sit down AND lean back
• Takes more wrap length to make a conversion
